Aïta Mon Amour
Im Jahr 2001 betrat Widad Mjama, Absolventin des Konservatoriums in Casablanca, die Bühne als Marokkos erste weibliche Rapperin in der von Männern geprägten Underground-Szene. Ihre Faszination für die Chikhates – Sängerinnen, Dichterinnen und Hüterinnen der Aïta, einer jahrhundertealten Tradition kollektiver weiblicher Ausdrucksform – führte sie zu ihrem neuesten Musikprojekt Aïta Mon Amour. Gemeinsam mit Khalil Epi, einem bekannten Elektronik-Musiker und versierten Spieler der Loutar, erforscht sie die fesselnde, mündlich überlieferte Tradition “Aïta”, die bis ins 12. Jahrhundert zurückreicht. Aïta bedeutet im marokkanischen Dialekt „Schrei“ und verkörpert sowohl den Ruf der Krieger als auch das sinnliche Klagen der Liebe.
Das zeitgenössische Elektronik-Projekt Aïta Mon Amour feiert und bewahrt in seiner eigenen faszinierenden Interpretation dieses einzigartige musikalische Erbe Marokkos. Wie die Weitergabe der Fackel zwischen Generationen schafft Widad eine musikalische Erzählung mit Aïta-Gedichten und Liedern, die getragen von herzergreifenden Schreien zwischen Tradition und Moderne zueinander finden. Seba Kayan ist DJ und Künstlerin aus Wien. In ihrem musikalischen Spektrum trifft Techno auf anatolische Klänge. Sie versucht dabei nicht, eine binäre Vision zwischen einer sogenannten „abendländischen“ und „orientalischen“ Welt zu schaffen, sondern beide Kulturen zu verkörpern, miteinander zu verstricken und somit eine Verbindung zur eigenen Identität herzustellen. In ihrem Musikprojekt carpet concert widmet sich Seba Kayan gemeinsam mit zwei Musiker*innen vor allem dem Dengbej, einer historischen, mündlich überlieferten kurdischen Tradition und hoch angesehenen musikalischen Form des Geschichtenerzählens und Oral History. Und auch hier geht es um neue, ungedachte Räume und Klänge. Die Mission ist einfach: eine neue Erzählung jenseits der Wahrnehmungen eindimensionaler orientalistischer Ideen zu feiern und eine alte Tradition zu bewahren und in neuem Kontext weiter zu führen.

In 2001, Widad Mjama, laureate of the Casablanca Conservatory, stepped into the spotlight as Morocco’s first female rapper in the predominantly male-driven underground scene. Her fascination with the Chikhates – female singers, poets, and guardians of Aïta, a centuries-old tradition of collective female expression – led her to her latest music project, “Aïta mon amour.” Collaborating with Khalil Epi, a renowned electronic musician and skilled player of the Loutar, they explore the captivating oral tradition of “Aïta,” dating back to the 12th century. Aïta, meaning ‘cry’ in the Moroccan dialect, embodies both the call of warriors and the sensual lament of love.
The contemporary electronic project “Aïta mon amour” celebrates and preserves, in its own fascinating interpretation, this unique musical heritage of Morocco. Like the passing of the torch between generations, Widad creates a musical narrative with Aïta poems and songs that, carried by poignant cries, bridge the gap between tradition and modernity. Faithful to the spirit and strength of its origins, “Aïta mon amour” is powerful, touching, and a journey into the history of the Chikhates. Seba Kayan is a DJ and artist from Vienna. In her musical spectrum, techno meets Anatolian sounds. She doesn’t aim to create a binary vision of an occidental vs. oriental world, but rather seeks to embody both cultures, intertwining them to establish a connection with her own identity. In her music project, carpet concert, Seba Kayan, along with two musicians, focuses on Dengbej, a historical, orally transmitted Kurdish tradition and a highly esteemed musical form of storytelling and oral history. Here too, the emphasis is on exploring new, unimagined spaces and sounds. The mission is simple: to celebrate a new narrative beyond the perceptions of one-dimensional orientalist ideas and to preserve and continue an old tradition in a new context.
